Specialist Fittings
Irrigation Systems, Air Admittance Valves, and Pressure & Expansion Vessels in Cheshire
A few specialist plumbing fittings come up less often than everyday fixtures, but each plays a genuinely important role when it's needed. We install and service irrigation systems, air admittance valves, and pressure relief or expansion vessels across Cheshire as part of our wider plumbing work.
Irrigation system installation
Garden irrigation systems automate watering for lawns, beds, or larger garden areas, connected to either the mains supply or a separate water source. We fit irrigation pipework, sprinkler or drip line systems, and the controls needed to schedule watering automatically. Backflow prevention is an important consideration here, since irrigation systems connect to your mains supply and need protection against contaminated water being drawn back into the clean supply, particularly given garden water can pick up fertiliser or other chemicals.
Air admittance valves
An air admittance valve allows air into a drainage system without needing a traditional vent pipe running externally, which is particularly useful where running a conventional vent isn't practical, such as an island sink unit in a kitchen or a bathroom extension where venting externally would be disruptive or impossible. These valves let air in to equalise pressure within the waste system, preventing the gurgling and slow drainage that happens when a waste pipe can't draw in air properly, while preventing foul air from escaping back into the room.
Pressure relief valves
Pressure relief valves protect heating and hot water systems from excessive pressure buildup, opening automatically to release pressure if it exceeds a safe threshold. These are a genuine safety component, particularly on unvented hot water cylinders, and need to be correctly specified and properly maintained, since a faulty pressure relief valve removes an important safety protection from the system.
Expansion vessels and tanks
Expansion vessels accommodate the natural expansion of water as it heats within a sealed heating or hot water system, preventing excessive pressure buildup that would otherwise stress pipework and components. Over time, expansion vessels can lose their internal charge or develop a fault, which typically shows up as a heating system that keeps losing pressure or a pressure relief valve that activates more often than it should.
