Copper pipework
Copper has been the traditional choice for plumbing for decades and remains a reliable, durable option, particularly for hot water and heating pipework where it handles temperature well and has a long track record of performance. It requires soldered or compression joints, which take more skill and time to fit correctly compared to push-fit alternatives, but the result is a robust, long-lasting installation.
Plastic pipework
Plastic pipe, typically PVC or similar materials, is commonly used for waste and drainage pipework, and increasingly for certain water supply applications too. It's resistant to corrosion in a way copper isn't, doesn't affect water taste the way some metal pipework can over time, and is generally quicker to install for larger waste pipe runs.
Push-fit fittings
Push-fit connections allow pipes to be joined quickly without soldering or specialist tools, which makes certain jobs significantly faster, particularly where access is tight or multiple connections are needed in a confined space. They're widely used and reliable when fitted correctly, though we'll always make sure the right type of push-fit fitting and pipe combination is used for the specific application, since not all combinations are appropriate for every use.

The right choice depends on the application: whether it's hot or cold water, supply or waste, the temperature and pressure the pipe needs to handle, and practical factors like access and how much disruption a particular method would cause. For a lot of jobs, a mix of materials makes the most sense, copper for certain sections, push-fit for ease of connection elsewhere, and plastic for waste runs.
